Sam’s a mover-shaker creative in D.C.

Sam is a video producer, writer, and creative coach working at Bluetext.

He builds ideas from discovery to debut, pitch to partnership, treatment to fine cut, static to animatic, and concept to let’s-do-that-again.

He’s always up for a brainstorm.

He’s infatuated with motion graphics and can wrangle some live-action together too.

He believes in D.C. as a creative city.

He’s not a designer and he doesn’t have any fancy awards yet, but folks really love working with him nonetheless.

It’s not about the destination. It’s all about the journey — the safari.

Go for the eyebrow raise!

Today's currency is attention. My time alongside the marketing champs at Bluetext has taught me that it takes both brevity and bravado to cut through the noise. This is why I love motion design - the story adapts to any audience or medium. Aim for an ‘eyebrow-raise’. Anything after that **chef’s kiss**.

Creative direction requires one to advocate for something that does not exist until it does.

They rally all the stakeholders, current and future, behind an idea of something that doesn’t exist yet.

They pitch the idea internally, they pitch to the client. They make a case for why people will care.

The thing that doesn’t exist yet gets a green light to exist.

They steward their vision through endless approval cycles, budgets, and logistics. They champion the original vision, they adapt it, they seize new opportunities, they challenge and are challenged, they give and take and make.

Eventually - the something is actually a thing. The idea exists.

They’re not done yet. Even with the real idea living out there in the wild - they protect it and adapt it and ensure that it remains what it needs to be.

Conceptualizing, coaching, researching, pitching, adapting, building, compromising, wondering, pushing, racing, believing…

If we meet, I’ll probably tell you I’m an “ideas guy” - but I’m really so much more.
